Nokia E70

Useful Software

Tiny Helpers

  • ActiveFile – Nice file manager.
  • Autolock – Application that automatically locks your keypad after a configurable amount of time (I still can't get why Nokia forgot to implement such an important feature into the Series 60 platform…)
  • Screenshot for Symbian OS – Small screenshot application, runs in the background and waits for a configurable shortcut to make a screenshot.

Development

  • Python for S60 – Do I really need to say more? ;-) Powerful language interpreter right in your pocket, with a wonderfully useable API.
  • SyncAndRun – A useful tool for Python development on the Series 60 platform. Allows the automatic upload and execution of configurable Python scripts from a development PC to the phone via bluetooth and by doing so reduces the edit-copy-run-cycle of mobile development to one click.

Interesting

  • J2MEQRCode (built upon the Open Source QR Code Library) – A tool for decoding QR Codes in your environment, using the built in camera of the phone. I stumbled over such a code by chance at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and therefore had to give that tool a try ;-) Could be a bit more stable in it's functionality (it throws an exception when trying to decode from a file, and is quite error prone), but free.
  • Kaywa Reader – Commercial (but free as in beer) tool with the same purpose as J2MEQRCode. Works better by far (like tilting the camera towards the code and BAM it's decoded). Use the version for the E65 for your E70, installs and works without a hassle.
